“We are now at a stage where there is a real possibility of peace on the Korean Peninsula, even as we are faced with immense geopolitical challenges in East Asia, especially in light of the increasing militarism in US policy and the Trump administration’s abandonment of nuclear arms control. This open discussion will bring together thoughtful people in Seoul to discuss honestly what exactly needs to be done right now and to make sure that the current overtures to North Korea lead to an actual peace treaty that will lay the groundwork for lasting peace throughout the region. We must start a positive cycle to counter the drive for military confrontation.

The gathering will take place on the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, the formal end of the First World War. Although the World War I seems far away for Koreans, the dangers of the current military buildup and the relentless pursuit of profit-driven economic strategies are eerily similar to the situation that led to the First World War, so much so that we have much to learn from that tragedy in Europe.

We welcome all concerned citizens to join us at this meeting and give your opinions. We hope to organize effectively so that we can turn our ideas into concrete action.
